The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Bioinformatics Data Engineer to join our expanding team. Working in collaboration with your software engineering, bioinformatics, functional genomics, and drug discovery colleagues, you will define, build, and maintain systems for the storage, processing, and integration of large-scale functional genomics data sets. Your work will contribute to the continued expansion and scaling of our unique platform aimed at understanding the mechanisms of human disease and driving therapeutic development.

What we are looking for

Essential Experience/Skills
  • BSc or higher degree in a mathematical, computational or sciences discipline or significant equivalent experience in a structured environment.
  • Extensive practical experience defining and writing scalable biological data processing pipelines.
  • Experience in data modelling and implementation in relational and non-relational databases.
  • Experience in cloud-based data processing and storage technologies and infrastructure and containerization.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R as well as extensive experience with modern data engineering tooling and workflow engines.
  • Experience with the processes and tooling of modern software development, DevOps, and DataOps.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; as well as the ability to prioritise and balance competing demands.
Preferred experience
  • PhD in life sciences related disciplines, bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, computing, or related area.
  • Drug discovery industry experience in the biotech or pharma.
  • Experience of bioinformatics tools, databases, and data sets.
