Laboratory Assistant

LOCATION: The Schrodinger Building, Oxford Science Park, Oxford

The Role

We are looking for a highly organised, proactive, and reliable individual to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant. We are looking for someone that is a self-starter, thrives within a dynamic working environment and is motivated by creating impact.  Attitude in this role is key – you will possess a strong ‘can-do’ attitude and thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a one-step ahead mentality.

What we are looking for

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing laboratory support with cleaning of benches, floors, and laboratory equipment.
  • Managing glassware and plasticware cleaning.
  • Processing lab coat laundry.
  • Providing routine maintenance and monitoring of fridges and freezers.
  • Maintaining the laboratory equipment asset register, including scanning of calibration certificates.
  • Maintaining laboratory stock consumables, including stocktaking, restocking the laboratory and receipt of lab consumable deliveries.
  • Support with Laboratory COSHH assessments and Health & safety process and procedures.
  • Supporting the various waste process streams e.g. autoclave of clinical waste, recycling and hazardous waste disposal.
Required Experience/Skills
  • A level or HNC in a science related subject.
  • Able to effectively interact and communicate.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; as well as the ability to prioritise and balance competing demands.
  • A positive “can-do” and result oriented attitude, with openness to new ideas and the ability to work flexibly in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
Desired experience
  • Previous experience in Laboratory support function.
  • Experience of following Health and Safety procedures in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Excel.
