Principal Computational Biologist

COMPENSATION: Competitive with share options available

LOCATION: The Schrodinger Building, Oxford Science Park, Oxford

HOURS: Full-time

CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent

NUCLEOME THERAPEUTICS, a fast-emerging biopharma that is building a passionate, creative, and dedicated multi-disciplinary team of scientists with expertise in gene regulation, genomics, machine learning, drug discovery, data analysis and software development, whose mission is to decode and mine the regulatory “dark matter” of the human genome to transform drug target discovery and deliver first-in-class precision medicine for autoimmune diseases. We are building a rewarding and fun environment where people embrace creative ways of thinking, take smart risks, and feel empowered to make a difference.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Computational Biologist to join our expanding Computational team. Working in collaboration with our functional genomics and drug discovery groups, you will help drive our internal and partnered drug discovery programs by developing insights from the integration and analysis of diverse biological data sets. In addition, via the development and integration of novel computational approaches, you will contribute to expansion of our unique platform aimed at understanding the mechanisms of human disease and driving therapeutic development.

What we are looking for

Essential Experience/Skills
  • PhD in life sciences related disciplines, bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or related area.
  • Experience in the development and application of computational approaches to the understanding of complex biology.
  • Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience focused on early-stage drug discovery and translation (e.g. target identification and validation, biomarker selection, etc).
  • Ability to conceive, modify, and implement custom computational methods and algorithms and apply them to large datasets.
  • Experience in the statistical analysis and modelling of large-scale, multi-modal data sets.
  • Expertise in bioinformatics programming languages (Python and/or R).
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; as well as the ability to prioritise and balance competing demands.
  • A positive “can-do” and result oriented attitude, with openness to new ideas, and the ability to work in a highly dynamic environment.
Preferred experience
  • Knowledge of the biological mechanisms involved in autoimmune disease or other complex diseases.
  • Exposure to, or interest in, cloud computing and the processes and tooling of modern software development.
